Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley (BGCSV) is a non-profit organization that has been serving our Sonoma community since 1962.
While we are part of the national movement of 4,000 Boys & Girls Clubs across the country, our organization is independently run and relies on donations from our community.
We provide our exceptional youth development programs for kids TK-12 and are currently serving over 2,600 youth annually.
Operation Bicycle is one of our social enterprise businesses which provides education and training opportunities for teens and young adults through bicycle mechanics classes, community events and employment opportunities in the shop.
The program provides on-the-job training and entrepreneurial skills to prepare youth for jobs in the community.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The staff and volunteers at the bike shop collaborate with teenagers to refurbish pre-owned bicycles for resale, as well as offer maintenance and repair services to the wider community.
The Operation Bicycle Assistant Manager (AM) is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operation and management of the shop located at 207 Nino Marco Square when the Manager is not available.
The AM's job is to maintain a smooth and organized workflow with all employees and volunteers of Operation Bicycle.
Operation Bicycle is open to the public from 1-6 pm, Tu-Sat.
The AM is responsible for working Saturdays as well as other agreed-upon weekdays.
The AM assumes the manager's work schedule when the manager is out sick or on vacation.
A flexible schedule is a must.
DUTIES &
Responsibilities:
Open and close the shop according to procedures laid out by the manager.
Supervise Teen employees.
Guarantee that protocols and systems are adhered to, ensuring accurate transmission of information regarding customer bicycles throughout the process, from intake to pick-up.
Ensure that bicycles are serviced in a timely and efficient manner.
Triage and delegate duties.
Keep parts stocked for repairs and sales by keeping tabs on inventory and placing orders as needed.
Organize and assist with special events and rides if/when necessary.
Oversee farmers' market bike valet service if/when necessary.
Maintain a clean and aesthetically pleasing store environment.
Assist in facilitating the bike mechanics classes.
Recruit, train and supervise teens to work at the shop and at community events while adhering to Boys & Girls Clubs of America Safety requirements.
Maintain quality control of all service, repairs, and sales from Operation Bicycle.
Adhere and uphold a code of conduct at the shop for a safe, fun and welcoming environment.
Adhere to the Boys & Girls Club philosophy.
Ensure program operations and activities adhere to legal guidelines and organizational policies and procedures as described in the organization's Employee Handbook and elsewhere.
Act as a liaison to teens and their families, assisting them in accessing bike resources.
Coordinate and supervise adult and teen volunteers at the shop and during outside activities.
Maintain open, supportive and collaborative relationships with staff and board members.
Establish and maintain effective, respectful, and productive relationships with funders, donors, and community partners to maximize Teen Services effectiveness.
Communicate regularly with staff, volunteers, customers, and teens.
Maintain records necessary for program evaluation.
Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent (some college is a plus).
Ability to pass a DOJ fingerprint clearance (if 18 or older) and background check, and provide a negative TB test.
Knowledge of bike repairs and customer service.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Flexible and patient.
Available Tuesday-Saturday, afternoons/evenings, and availability to take on managers schedule when on vacation Basic knowledge of business operations.
Ability to move or lift up to 40 lbs.
RECOMMENDED
Qualifications:
Ability to assess the value of bikes, parts and accessories.
Experience working with teens 13-18 years old.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Platform.
Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
Ability to be certified in CPR & First Aid.
