Vehicle Description 1970 Dodge Charger 2-Door Hardtop Big Block 440, 45K Miles, 2-Owner California Car Beautifully preserved, low mileage two-owner 1970 Dodge Charger 2-door Hardtop for sale.
Assembled at Lynch Road, Detroit, this California car was purchased new by a couple in El Cerrito directly through the factory.
The current airplane mechanic owner has fastidiously cared for and upgraded his special 3rd generation Charger over their now 33-year relationship.
When I first saw this car, I knew it was special.
I met with the owner's niece, looked over the car, and discussed her uncle, who is now in long-term care.
When I was driving back to my shop, I kept thinking that his name was so familiar.
I looked through my archives and discovered that he was one of my earliest clients when I opened Left Coast Classics 17 years ago! I remembered him well as I sold an Oldsmobile F-85 for him.
And I remember that every time we spoke, he raved about his special Dodge Charger! So this was the car he had spoken of so fondly of! I began to sift through his paperwork and notes and found the name of the people who first owned it from nearby El Cerrito, California.
I looked her up and found she was deceased.
There was a name below it, so I looked up this person, found his email, and sent him a note.
I was as excited to get his reply as he was to get my email! He told me that it was purchased new in 1972 from the factory by his father-in-law and mother-in-law John and Eleanor Ciochetto.
Their son, Gerald Chichetto, was a designer for Chrysler/Dodge and worked at the plant in Detroit.
The car was purchased through employee pricing right off the assembly line and driven out to El Cerrito by Gerald and delivered to his parents.
They owned the car until his father passed away in 1988.
It was his pride and joy.
It was sold to its current owner, who promised to take good care of it, and that is exactly what he did.
This special time capsule shows only 45,468 miles.
It left the factory in its current Dark Gold Metallic with Light Gold Vinyl Bucket Seats.
It was originally equipped with an M code 400ci and TorqueFlite Automatic Transmission.
The current owner, a retired airplane mechanic, re-fitted the car with a big block 440 and a B&M floor shifter.
The car starts and runs beautifully, and the entire 440 transplant was beautifully done.
It has a B&M floor shifter upgrade, and custom wheels have been installed.
It has Firestone P255/70R 15's in the rear with P225/75R 15's up-front.
The oil pressure is nice and high, idling just under 70 PSI.
The car roars along with tons of power.
The 440 appears and sounds stock.
The exterior is in beautiful condition all around.
At some point, the car was re-sprayed in its original Dark Gold Metallic.
The body is straight and solid with no rust, excellent rockers with a very tidy and original undercarriage.
The rare split grill is in excellent condition, along with the rest of the chrome and stainless.
Overall its a stunning looking example that has been garaged its entire life.
Inside, the original Light Gold interior is well preserved.
He kept the parcel shelf covered over his ownership along with the dash though the padded top portion has some cracks where he put tape.
There is a custom fit carpet dash cover that is included with the car.
The factory headliner is still in very nice condition.
The gauge cluster, door panels, and cards are in excellent shape as well.
A hood release was added to ensure the hood is locked and secured.
The original steering wheel is in excellent condition.
Currently, the radio is inoperable though everything else works beautifully.
This is a wonderful example with a very short owner list, an excellent opportunity to own a very special Charger.
